Automakers across the globe and through the decades have built cars out of all sorts of materials. That list includes body panels made from soybeans turned into plastic and ceramic as well. Even today, Morgan makes use of wood in its cars. Kayne West seems to be the very first person to posit that cars should be made from foam.

In a very simple teaser image first reported by Complex, the Donda Foam Vehicle is seen in mostly silhouette form. “Conceptualized Designed Manufactured In The United States Amen” reads the post. Of course, with no other information to go on just yet, we’ll have to wait to see how true those statements are but there’s still quite a bit to unpack from the image itself.

Let’s break down some of the details that we can pick up from the concept image released today. Firstly, there’s not much in the way of sharp or eye-catching external design cues. The pill-shaped body is a bit tough to swallow since it’s so simple and stark.

The gigantic wheels seem to support airless tires and if the scale is any sort of accurate, they look like they’re bigger than the windows. Compare that to the average automotive wheel and window today and we’re guessing that you’re looking at something in the neighborhood of a 30-inch wheel here.

Others in the media have suggested that this might be some sort of “wild off-roader” but the truth is that with the sort of travel this suspension seems to have that it could get damaged driving over a tall speed bump. Of course, if this thing is actually going to be built in large part with foam there are a host of other issues to deal with.

Some questions that pop into mind are, how will the foam support weight and how will it be even remotely safe? How will it handle the intense heat that all drivetrains, internal combustion and electric, generate? Why pick foam at all if not just to grab headlines and attention for another celebrity-created product that’s far more style (not in this case clearly) than it is substance?
