With immense levels of power, very little weight, and advanced aerodynamics, the McLaren 765LT is one of the most potent supercars currently on sale.

Driving the car is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that McLaren says is good for 755 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. However, numerous dyno runs have revealed that it has more power than McLaren claims, likely over 800 hp. Mated to the engine is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power through the rear wheels.

Eager to see just how quick the British supercar is in a straight line, AutoTopNL recently jumped behind the driver’s seat of one example and headed for the German Autobahn.

McLaren says the 765LT needs just 2.8 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) and while that’s impressive, it’s not the most incredible thing about the 765LT’s performance. Instead, it is the rolling acceleration of the car that is particularly remarkable. At one stage, it can be seen sprinting from 100 km/h to 200 km/h (62 – 124 mph) in roughly 5 seconds without even breaking a sweat.

The 765LT doesn’t stop building up speed at frightening rates once it storms past 200 km/h either. With the throttle pinned, the driver exploits the car’s full level of performance by taking it through to an indicated top speed of 326 km/h or 202.5 mph, just shy of the car’s claimed 205 mph top speed. Not only does the McLaren get to these kinds of speeds incredibly easily but it seems easy to control at over 200 mph and thanks to the carmaker’s advanced suspension system, even the ride appears to remain quite supple.
