Jeep is honoring the 30th anniversary of the Grand Cherokee with the new 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary Edition.

The model features a unique blacked-out appearance package with a modified front fascia. It gets signature blue tow hooks, as with other 4xe models, as well as a dual exhaust, and a dual-pane sunroof.

The Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary Edition also sits on new 20-inch wheels finished in black, and gets special-edition badging as well as body-color rear fascia, lower moldings, claddings, and wheel flares.

Inside, the SUV has black Capri leather seats that are ventilated up front. A wireless charging pad, nine-speaker Alpine audio system, and Uconnect 5 with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make up the connectivity suite in this model.

Buyers will also get standard front and rear park assist, intersection collision assist, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a digital rearview mirror, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. Navigation with 3D graphics, meanwhile, will help drivers get where they’re going.

As with other plug-in hybrid versions of the SUV, the Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary Edition can go up to 25 miles (40 km) on electric power alone. It is rated at 56 MPGe and can put down 375 hp (280 kW/380 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque.

Bookending the story of the SUV thus far, the new model is being unveiled at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show, where the original was first unveiled in 1992.

“When the original Jeep Grand Cherokee debuted in 1992 by famously crashing through the glass at Cobo Hall, it literally shattered expectations and redefined what a premium SUV could be,” said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America. “The Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary edition underscores how far the Grand Cherokee has come and is yet another example of the Jeep brand’s goal to be the electrification leader in SUVs.”

It’ll Cost You $4,700

The 30th-anniversary edition package will be available for a limited time and adds $4,700 to the price of the vehicle. Order books will open later this year, with the model scheduled to arrive in dealer showrooms by early 2023.
