Toyota Australia has announced local pricing details for the 2023 GR Corolla and it’s not as expensive as some people had expected.

Sitting at the base of the local GR Corolla range will be the GTS model. This variant will be offered from AU$62,300 ($43,401) plus on-road costs and essentially brings together parts from the entry-level Core and the mid-range Circuit Edition models sold in the United States. Most notably, Australia’s GR Corolla GTS has Torsen limited-slip differentials at both the front and rear, an important feature omitted on the U.S.’s Core variant but featured on the Circuit Edition.

Just 700 examples of the Toyota GR Corolla GTS are heading Down Under for the first year. An additional 25 variants of the flagship GR Corolla Morizo Edition are also on the way, priced from AU$77,800 ($54,199).

Key upgrades of the Morizo Edition include forged 18-inch BBS wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, a carbon-fiber reinforced polymer roof, the removal of the rear seats, and new gear ratios. The Morizo Edition also has a single-zone climate-control system, just two speakers, and lacks both wireless charging and parking sensors.

Both the GR Corolla GTS and Morizo Edition models are powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. This mill is good for 221 kW (296 hp) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) in the GTS and 221 kW (296 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) in the Morizo Edition. Both send power through all four wheels courtesy of the carmaker’s GR-Four all-wheel drive system.

The only available options is a AU$575 ($400) premium paint option for the GTS and AU$2,500 ($1,741) matte paint for the Morizo Edition.

The Competition

Pricing for the GR Corolla means it matches up well against its rivals. For example, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R starts at AU$72,600 ($50,577) including on-road costs. The entry-level GTS is also cheaper than the VW Golf R that starts at AU$65,990 ($45,972) plus on-road costs. Given that on-road costs for the GR Yaris added approximately AU$5,000 (~$3,453) to its sticker price, we expect similar with the GR Corolla.
