The Porsche Boxster and Cayman are famed for their handling and performance, but owners know they both have another great quality that isn’t obvious on a five-minute blast down a canyon road: practicality.

Having a trunk at both the front and rear makes the 718 duo far more usable than many mid-engine sports cars, and these latest Boxster spy shots suggest the next-generation car is going to be every bit as generous when it comes to luggage space. Scoop photographers spotted members of Porsche test team lifting bags out of the front trunk of the electric 2025 Boxster, while rear shots confirm that a rear trunk is also present.

One thing we don’t yet know is how much, if at all, the front trunk space will vary depending on what powertrain the owners specifies. While base versions of the Boxster are likely to get a single motor in the back driving the rear wheels, more expensive models will get a dual-motor setup and all-wheel drive, and it’s possible that the motor and driveshafts might eat into trunk space in the AWD car.

Those shots showing the front trunk lid open were taken at a Tesla charging station, and while the photographers didn’t managed to capture any of the four Boxsters charging, they did snap one of the cars driving with the charging door on the rear-panel wide open. Which makes the presence of the dummy central exhaust tailpipe below it even more ridiculous.

Porsche has confirmed that the all-new Boxster and Cayman EVs will be launched in 2025, but the company has also made clear that the arrival of the new EV twins doesn’t mean the end of combustion power for the 718, at least not in the short term. CEO Oliver Blume said the existing gasoline-powered Boxster and Cayman will continue in production alongside the new EVs initially, leaving the electric models to go it alone “in the medium term.”

That dual-powertrain strategy is one Porsche will also rely on when it releases the long-awaited Macan EV a year before the 718s are launched, and also when the recently-confirmed Cayenne EV makes its debut in 2026.
