Ford has confirmed that the Fiesta supermini will be axed in June 2023, bringing an end to its 47-year-long run, with the upcoming Puma EV to serve as an indirect replacement. Despite this, independent digital artist Theophilus Chin (also known as Theottle) has envisioned a Fiesta EV based on the recently revealed VW ID.2all concept.

The designer maintained the VW ID.2‘s proportions, greenhouse, and profile, while adding Ford-specific features to the front and rear of the renderings. This approach is often seen in smaller vehicles with shared underpinnings, such as the rivaling Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa from Stellantis, to reduce costs in development and production. The resulting Fiesta EV has a sporty stance and pony-car emblems sourced from the Mustang Mach-E.

What If Ford Collaborated With VW On A Fiesta Mach-E Based On The ID.2?

The Mach-E’s front features have been adapted to fit the smaller Fiesta body, resulting in the first-ever Mustang-styled supermini or as Americans call them, sub-compact hatches. The LED taillights are now adorned with three stripes, and the tailgate sports a noticeable bump. Additionally, the new alloy wheels from the Mach-E look much larger on this interpretation.

Ford and VW have collaborated on using the MEB platform for the Explorer EV and another sportier SUV in Europe. However, the Blue Oval has also stated that these will be the last vehicles to use a VW-sourced platform, as the company plans to use its own EV-dedicated architecture for future models. While some may have hoped for a partnership that included a sub-compact, it seems unlikely at this time.

That means Theottle’s renderings of the Ford Fiesta EV depict a fictional car from an alternative universe that will never become a reality. It should be noted that the upcoming VW ID.2, which served as the basis for the renderings, is expected to arrive in 2025 with a targeted €25,000 (equal to $27,000) price, a front-mounted 223 hp (166 kW / 226 PS) electric motor, and a promised 450 km (280 miles) range.
