Mercedes is bringing a touch of luxury to electric vehicle ownership by opening their first charging hub in North America.

Located at Mercedes-Benz USA headquarters in Sandy Springs, Georgia, the station is designed to set a “new standard for fast, convenient, clean and reliable EV charging, while promoting EV adoption.”

As part of this effort, the Mercedes-Benz Charging Hub has powerful 400 kW chargers as well as a solar canopy, which protects customers from rain while also providing power for LED lights. The station was built with accessibility in mind as there’s a handicap charging spot as well as an “uncovered, drive-through charging spot that is designed for electric vans or EVs with trailers up to 26 feet (7.9 meters) in length.”

Those aren’t the only clever touches as the hub has “intelligent indicators,” which are located 15 feet (4.6 meters) off the ground. They show the status of the charging stall – free, taken, or reserved – and are visible from the street.

However, the real coup de grace is the charging lounge that promises to be a “premium, clean and comfortable” place to hang out while your vehicle charges. It features couches and chairs, a restroom, and vending machines.

While the first station is now open, it won’t be the last as the company is planning to have at least 400 charging hubs across North America by the end of the decade. They’ll have 2,500 chargers and amenities similar to the station in Georgia.

In other news, Mercedes confirmed that charging hubs will open at Buc-ee’s locations in Texas, Florida, Alabama, and Georgia by the end of the year. The automaker also revealed that hubs are coming to Simon Mall locations in the first half of 2024.
