When Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck it allowed customers to reserve a truck for $100. Starting today, those same reservation holders will need to pony up another $1,000 to become an order holder. Tesla will credit that money toward the purchase of the truck but it’s also not refundable should an order-holder back out of the deal. The move will likely weed out those who don’t plan on paying up for the slab-sided pickup truck.
As Tesla doesn’t have a conventional press department there are several details that we’re first learning through reservation-holder experience. In this case, the “Early Access Deposit” appears to only pop up when Tesla invites a customer to convert their reservation to a specific order. During that process, customers get the chance to configure their Cybertruck too.
That means that they should have an idea of their final purchase price and all of the included features and accessories. If they’re content with whatever that final tally is, they’ll be asked to pay $1,000 right then and there. Tesla appears as though it’s ramping up Cybertruck production to the point that it’ll deliver a number of trucks by the end of this month.
