A handful of videos have gone viral on TikTok this week showing one of the most bizarre videos we’ve ever seen of a Tesla, and that’s saying something. The videos were captured in Texas and show a white Model Y towing a massive trailer on public roads in a sight that truly boggles the mind.
The Tesla Model Y is officially rated to tow up to 3,500 lbs (1,587 lbs) but this 53-foot trailer is thought to weigh around 10,000 lbs (4,535 kg). The actual sight of the Model Y towing the trailer isn’t all that impressive as smaller and less powerful cars could probably also tow it once they overcame the friction of the trailer’s tires. However, this doesn’t make the scene any less weird.

The Drive reports the Tesla was first spotted in Harlingen, Texas and it was seen towing the trailer on a couple of occasions throughout the day. The Texas Department of Public Safety eventually got in contact with Capital Towing after the Model Y and the trailer were found parked new Palm Valley. It was swiftly transported to an impound lot.
Adding to the mystery of the incident is the fact that the Model Y and the trailer were ditched in a parking lot with the driver nowhere in sight. It’s unclear if the Tesla was stolen and how the driver managed to get access to the trailer but the fact that the lights of the trailer were not hooked up and that its air brakes would not have been functioning makes the stunt very dangerous. Driving around like this is also blatantly illegal and the driver is fortunate they were not pulled over by police while behind the wheel.
