• This Holden Commodore was once owned by Australian racing legend Peter Brock, making it a highly sought-after collector’s item.
  • One of only 5,090 ever built, this specific car (number 005) has low mileage (79,724 km) and is in good condition with original documents.
  • It boasts a 4.9-liter V8 engine with modifications for enhanced performance.

Peter Brock is widely considered one of the greatest Australian racing car drivers ever and the 1985 Holden Commodore SS HDT Group A that he once called his own is up for grabs in Australia. Mind you, it is not cheap. In fact, it is set to sell for as much as a legitimate supercar.

Holden built the SS HDT Group A as a homologation special. Just 5,090 examples were delivered and this car is number 005. It initially served as Brock’s personal company car and has only had four owners since new. A look at the odometer reveals it has only ever been driven 79,724 km (49,538 miles) and will be handed over to the new owner with all of the original documents.

Driving the limited edition model is a 4.9-liter V8 with an 8.8:1 compression ratio, adjustable roller rocker arms, a high-lift camshaft, and strengthened components. There is also a cold air intake, Rochester four-barrel carburetor, and Group A headers. It delivered 196 kW (263 hp) when new and is paired to a four-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential.

Like all other Commodore SS HDT Group A models, Brock’s former car is painted in Formula Blue with various white Group A decals and sports 16-inch white alloy wheels, a full Bilstein suspension and a stainless steel exhaust. It has also been recently fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tires and was serviced last October. At the time of writing, and with two days left in the auction, the highest bid stood at AU$300,500 (US$198,434).

The seller over at Collecting Cars notes there are plenty of stone chips across the front bumper and grille of the car but this is to be expected for a vehicle of this age. For the most part, the car appears free of any major dents or scratches and has aged gracefully. As for the interior, it screams 1980s with cloth seats, a square dashboard, and a three-spoke black leather sports steering wheel.
