• Apart from the wheels and tires, this M240i xDrive appears to be in stock condition.
  • However, under the hood it has received lots of modifications that allow it to deliver this incredible output.
  • The modified M240i had previously run down the quarter-mile in 7.9 seconds at 175 mph (281 km/h).

Save for the aftermarket wheels, beefy tires, and the NACA duct in the hood, this BMW M240i xDrive looks just like any other. However, hidden beneath the standard skin is an extremely modified powertrain that has made this the quickest BMW on earth.

Each M240i xDrive to leave the BMW factory is equipped with the marque’s B58 engine. This 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six has been in production since 2015 and has already earned a reputation for being highly receptive to modifications. The owner of this M240i has taken the B58 to heights that we didn’t think were possible.

The most significant upgrade made under the hood is the fitment of a huge 74 mm Precision turbocharger that runs 49 psi of boost. The 3.0-liter has also been fitted with new camshafts, ported heads, and a heavy-duty fuel system. Interestingly, the owner has retained the car’s all-wheel drive system which in high-powered AWD drag racers is often ditched in favor of rear-wheel drive.

What the owner has done is upgrade the eight-speed automatic transmission, installed a carbon fiber driveshaft, and modified the axles to handle the additional power.

The crew over at That Racing Channel recently jumped into the passenger seat of the car at the 2X2K24 event in Texas and were blown away by the performance it delivers. It has previously run down the quarter-mile in a blistering 7.9 seconds at 175 mph (281 km/h), a truly remarkable figure for a car that still looks largely original like it does.

Adding to the car’s appeal is the fact that the cabin is the same as any regular M240i and is equally as luxurious. It even retains the standard model’s driving modes and can be driven sedately without any issues.
