• Honda’s new restoration service will start with the original NSX next year.
  • The service will expand to cover other classic Honda performance models.
  • Other Japanese companies, including Toyota and Nissan, offer similar services.

If you own a classic Honda and you’ve been struggling to find original parts, your luck just improved. The Japanese automaker has rolled out a new program designed to supply genuine parts and restoration services for discontinued models, starting with the original NSX next year. So, if your beloved classic is looking more “vintage” than “well-maintained,” help is on the way.

Honda’s keeping the details about the new service to a minimum for now, but it does confirm that modern manufacturing techniques, like 3D printing, are making it easier to recreate certain parts for classic cars. This could mean that, soon enough, your aging NSX won’t be missing that impossible-to-find side mirror or air intake.

This isn’t Honda’s first rodeo when it comes to special programs for the NSX. Since 1993, they’ve been running the NSX Refresh Plan, which offers everything from engine rebuilds to interior upgrades. For owners who wanted to restore their NSX to its former glory, Honda’s been there, offering things like repainted exteriors and brand-new interiors.

However, the NSX Refresh Plan is getting the boot this year to make room for this new, expanded restoration service. But don’t worry, the new service will include “genuine compatible parts,” so your NSX will get the real deal.

What Other Models Might Get the Service?

Unfortunately, Honda has not said which other models will be compatible with the new restoration service, other than confirming “the service will be expanded to cover other sports-type models.” If that’s the case, then don’t expect to see Honda trying to keep old Odysseys on the roads, but rather some of its popular classic performance models, presumably including some with the fabled Type R badge.

Honda says it will announce further details about the new services and parts supply later this year.

Honda isn’t the only Japanese automaker getting in on the restoration action. Both Toyota and Nissan also operate similar services. Toyota runs its GR Heritage Parts division, reproducing parts for models like the AE86, A70, and A80 Supra, as well as 40-, 60-, 70-, and 80-series Land Cruisers. Similarly, Nissan offers a complete restoration service for several of its discontinued models, including classic Skyline GT-Rs.
