• Toyota has introduced the 2026 Prius, which carries over with a slight price hike.
  • The 2026 Prius Prime gains a new Nightshade Edition, which costs $37,795.
  • The Nightshade has black badging, black accents, and black 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Toyota Prius is celebrating 25 years in the United States. That’s quite an accomplishment and the company didn’t hold back as they called the original model “nothing short of a revolution.” They added it was a “true trailblazer” that “set the stage for the electrification movement.”

While it’s hard to argue with that, Toyota didn’t even bother creating a special edition. That seems like a missed opportunity, but there doesn’t appear to be any changes for 2026 aside from pricing.

Speaking of which, the Prius now starts at $28,550 which is an increase of $200. The Prius XLE and Limited also see a $200 price hike, while the Nightshade returns with a $240 increase.

Since everything appears to carryover, we’ll remind you the entry-level LE comes equipped with LED lighting units and 17-inch alloy wheels. Buyers will also find a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch infotainment system, and a six-speaker audio system. They’re joined by the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of driver assistance systems, which includes Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection.

Power is provided by a hybridized 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces a combined output of 194 hp (145 kW / 197 PS). Customers can also get a slightly more powerful all-wheel drive variant with 196 hp (146 kW / 199 PS). More importantly, the Prius returns up to 57 mpg city, 56 mpg highway, and 57 mpg combined.

2026 Prius Prime Goes Dark With New Nightshade Edition

While the standard Prius barely changes, the 2026 Prius Prime gains a new Nightshade Edition. It’s based on the XSE trim and embraces the blackout trend.

The changes are immediately apparent as the model has black badging, black bumper trim, and black 19-inch alloy wheels. They’re joined by black door handles and a black shark-fin antenna.

The Nightshade Edition will be available in three different colors known as Midnight Black Metallic, Wind Chill Pearl, and Karashi. The latter is exclusive to the blackout edition.

Interior changes are more modest, but include black door sill plates and faux carbon fiber trim on the dashboard. Buyers will also find black SofTex seats with gray contrast stitching as well as eight-way power adjustment on the driver’s side.

The Prius Prime is notable for having a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consist of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 13.6 kWh battery pack, and two electric motors. This gives the car a combined output of 220 hp (164 kW / 223 PS) and an electric-only range of up to 44 miles (71 km).

Pricing starts at $33,775, which is $400 more than last year. That same increase also applies to the XSE and range-topping XSE Premium.
