• This GTO Judge Ram Air IV has just over 52,000 miles logged.
  • Only 24 were built in 1970 with the four-speed manual gearbox.
  • Stripped and restored in 2017, it now looks as good as new.

In the golden era of American muscle, few cars captured the spirit of performance quite like Pontiac’s GTO. Among them, one model in particular continues to turn heads, especially when it surfaces at auction.

This 1970 GTO Judge Ram Air IV Convertible is a standout even among rare machinery. Built during the height of the muscle car wars, it represents the kind of limited-production oddity collectors dream about.

Only 168 Judge Convertibles are believed to have been produced for the 1970 model year, and today, low-mileage survivors like this can command prices north of $1 million. Soon, one of these elusive machines is headed to auction.

What Makes It So Rare?

The specific example going under the hammer next year is believed to be one of just 24 cars configured with the optional four-speed manual transmission. That stat alone puts it in rare company. But there’s more, and if you’re a bidder, it’s not the kind of news your wallet will welcome.

According to Mecum Auctions, which is handling the sale, it’s the only known Ram Air IV Judge Convertible in this configuration that still retains its original, numbers-matching drivetrain. And as we all know, when it comes to muscle car provenance, factory authenticity can be the difference between a noteworthy sale and a record-breaking one.

Powering the car is a 400 cubic-inch (6.6 liters) V8 that delivered 370 hp when this car was new. In 2017, the Pontiac was stripped back to its bare metal and completely restored. It was then repainted in the original shade of Pepper Green with yellow highlights and continues to sit on the original wheels, wrapped in Firestone tires.

A look at the odometer reveals this Pontiac GTO has been driven a touch over 52,500 miles (84,500 km), and while that’s not ultra-low by collector standards, the restoration means it presents like an even far fresher example.

That’s especially clear inside the cabin, where the black vinyl seats remain in remarkable condition. Even the engine bay looks freshly detailed and correct, right down to the smallest fittings.

Mecum Auctions is selling the car at its Kissimmee event in January 2026. It hasn’t released a pre-auction price estimate, but it’s certainly possible the car will sell for a truly staggering sum. In early 2023, a similarly rare Judge Convertible with the available automatic transmission sold for a staggering $1.1 million.

Only 24 Of These Pontiacs Were Built, And This Is The Only One Left With Matching Numbers

Mecum Auctions is offering the car at its Kissimmee event in January 2026. While no pre-auction estimate has been released, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it climb into seven-figure territory. Back in early 2023, another ultra-rare Judge Convertible, this one with the less desirable automatic, fetched an eye-watering $1.1 million.
