A bone-stock Pontiac Fiero will always be a quirky snapshot of what might have happened if a bit more of GM’s 1980s optimism had actually stuck the landing. This unique example is something far beyond that, though. It’s basically a legend in the Fiero enthusiast community that has been developing since 2003.

The car has taken home awards at major anniversary meets and even turned laps at Indy. Now it’s for sale to the highest bidder, complete with a Northstar V8, a Porsche transaxle, and a few Corvette odds and ends thrown in for good measure.

Originally a Canadian-market Fiero SE, this Pontiac now houses a Cadillac Northstar V8 tucked in behind the cabin. It’s paired with a five-speed Porsche 901 transaxle, driving only the rear wheels.

To make it all fit, the builder stretched the chassis a full foot. Then, he stitched in Corvette chassis and braking components. To top it off, he added Dellorto carbs to the V8.

This Legendary V8 Pontiac Lived The Mid-Engine Fantasy Long Before The C8

Typically, the advice is to never ever buy another man’s project, but this could be the exception to that rule. When the project began in 2003, the builder started a thread on it and documented just about every nut and bolt that he worked on, changed, or replaced.

That includes bespoke modifications like the center-exit quad exhaust, the HID headlights, and the aero bits that make this Fiero stand out even more.

Inside, things stay just as odd. There, you’ll find bucket seats, an Audi TT shifter, a Firebird console, and upgraded audio. The odometer doesn’t work (the car is TMU), the shifter reportedly takes effort, and the idle can be temperamental.

That’s par for the course when your mid-engine Pontiac shares parts with everything from Porsches to Corvettes and 1980s Dellorto hardware.

The builder himself once wrote that the concept was meant to show what a DIY “Indy Fiero” could be and even joked that its silhouette was what the next Corvette should look like.

When the C8 debuted in 2020 as a mid-engined exotic-shaped wedge, he joked it was a strange moment of vindication. GM’s billion-dollar supercar now shared a concept sketch with his garage-born Fiero. Now, after trading hands a few times over 20+ years, it can be yours.

For anyone who’s ever wanted a Fiero that moonlights as a Corvette-Porsche mashup with a side of carbureted chaos, this is your moment. It’s weird, it’s fast, it runs (mostly). Check out the listing here and decide if you’re brave enough to own it.
