- Volkswagen has teased the redesigned Atlas.
- It debuts at the New York Auto Show in April.
- Model should have a 2.0-liter turbo with 268 hp.
The Atlas is Volkswagen’s second best-selling vehicle in America, but you’d be hard pressed to tell as the company has kicked off a relatively low-key teaser campaign for the redesigned crossover.
Set to be unveiled at the 2026 New York Auto Show in April, the model will have you feeling déjà vu as it closely resembles China’s Teramont Pro we first saw last year and has a lot in common with the outgoing Atlas including the same 117.3-inch (2,980 mm) wheelbase. Auto News also says the roof carries over, although all the other sheet metal is new.

Volkswagen has not shared many specifics yet, but the crossover has a large split grille that is flanked by LED headlights with C-shaped accents. Further below, there are vertical air curtains and a wide lower intake with a diamond mesh pattern.
Moving down the sides, the 2027 Atlas has plastic body cladding and a pronounced shoulder line. They’re joined by muscular fenders, streamlined bodywork, and an upward sweeping beltline.
The rear end is heavily camouflaged, but it has a spoiler and what appears to be a light bar. We can also see a curvaceous bumper with diamond mesh flourishes on either side of the tow hitch receiver.
Volkswagen didn’t tease the interior, but the cabin could echo its Chinese counterpart. If that’s the case, the model would have a high-tech cockpit with a digital instrument cluster, a floating infotainment system, and a front passenger display.

The 2027 Atlas reportedly rides on the MQB Evo platform and will be powered by a new EA888 evo5 engine. There’s no word on specifications, but the 2.0-liter four-cylinder is also used in the Tiguan.
The stronger of the two variants produces 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. This version will likely be used in the Atlas, although the torque output could climb to around 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) if the Teramont Pro is any indication.
To put those numbers into perspective, the current Atlas has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder EA888 evo4 developing 269 hp (201 kW / 273 PS) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm).
