• The Rocket GTS packs 986 hp from a hybrid twin-turbo V8.
  • Brabus claims a 0 to 60 mph time of just 2.6 seconds.
  • Green carbon trim meets leather and Alcantara inside.

In the US, $1.4 million opens the door to some very serious performance machinery. If you have that kind of cash lying around, you could park both a Lamborghini Revuelto and the all-new Ferrari 849 Testarossa in your garage, two of the quickest and most exotic hybrid supercars on the planet. Prefer something homegrown? Seven brand-new Chevy Corvette ZR1Xs would do the trick. Or you could take a very different route and buy this, a Brabus Rocket GTS.

On paper, dropping just shy of $1.4 million, or $1,387,081 to be exact, on what is essentially a heavily modified Mercedes-AMG SL 63 that looks like the three-pointed star’s interpretation of an over-the-top BMW Z3 clown shoe does not scream rational decision.

In the real world, though, this limited-run creation would likely turn just as many heads as a brand-new Lamborghini or Ferrari, possibly more, depending on your tolerance for drama.

The car is listed for sale by Brabus USA itself and is one of the first examples to touch down in the country, possibly the very first. It’s been about 18 months since Brabus pulled the covers off its rather curious two-door Shooting Brake take on the SL 63, and this one dials things up another notch.

The original show car wore traditional exposed carbon fiber. This Rocket GTS instead dips the entire carbon body in green. You will not find a regular Mercedes that looks anything like it.

Pictured under the sun, the green carbon fiber looks absolutely spectacular, although we’re sure it’ll be too overbearing for some shoppers. The reshaped rear and extended roofline are bound to split opinion too, but there is a convincing logic to it. Somehow, the Shooting Brake treatment fits the SL’s lines better than it has any right to.

A Cabin to Match

The interior of this Brabus is just as wild as the exterior. Almost every square inch of the cabin has been bathed in green leather and green Alcantara, including the seats, transmission tunnel, door panels, headliner, and floor mats. For the few parts that aren’t wrapped in leather or Alcantara, they are finished in green carbon fiber.

Spending hypercar money on a Brabus might sound slightly unhinged, but at least the performance backs up the invoice. Power comes courtesy of an upgraded 4.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with the same plug-in hybrid system as the SL 63 E Performance, meaning the Rocket GTS delivers 986 hp and 1,195 lb-ft (1,620 Nm) of torque.

According to Brabus, it can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.6 seconds, 124 mph (200 km/h) in 9.5 seconds, 186 mph (300 km/h) in 23.6 seconds, and a top speed electronically capped at 197 mph (317 km/h).

So yes, it costs hypercar money, but it also looks like nothing else on the road and moves like it means it. Curious? Check out the listing over here and decide whether your garage needs a very green problem.
