Honda has given the ZR-V a light refresh in Japan, almost four years after it first arrived. Think of it as Japan’s take on the North American HR-V, just with different badges. Now it has gone fully hybrid, ditching pure combustion power in favor of the same self-charging setup offered in Europe.
The timing might suggest something more dramatic, but the updates are fairly restrained. These include new paint options, fresh wheel designs, revised interior themes, and a bump in standard equipment. The lineup consists of the X, Z, Black Style, and the newly added Cross Touring trim.

Starting with the high-spec Z, the exterior design remains unchanged from its predecessor, though it now offers new color choices. These include Twilight Mist Black Pearl, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, and Seabed Blue Pearl, alongside a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels with five double spokes. The grille keeps its vertical slats, the toothy look that also appears on the European-spec model.

Inside, standard equipment includes a 9-inch infotainment with Google built-in, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, heated and electrically adjustable seats, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, USB-C ports, ambient lighting, and a multi-view camera system.

The Black Style variant builds on the Z grade but leans into a darker aesthetic. It swaps in a honeycomb grille, adds Crystal Black Pearl accents around the bodywork, finishes the 18-inch wheels in Berlina Black, and carries the theme into the cabin with a dark interior treatment.

Then there is the new ZR-V Cross Touring. It borrows the honeycomb grille and bumper intakes from the US-spec HR-V, giving it a slightly tougher, more outdoorsy posture. Aluminum-style skid plates, side skirts, extra protective cladding, and matte black 18-inch wheels reinforce the look. Buyers can specify it in an exclusive Desert Beige Pearl finish, paired with beige leather and orange stitching inside for a bit of contrast.

Every 2026 Honda ZR-V now runs the same 2.0-liter e:HEV powertrain, as the non-electrified turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine has quietly exited the lineup. The self-charging hybrid delivers a combined 181 hp (135 kW / 184 PS), and buyers can choose between FWD and AWD depending on how much traction they prefer with their efficiency.

The 2026 Honda HR-V is available to order in Japan priced from ¥3,707,000 ($23,200) for the cheapest e:HEV X trim to ¥4,727,800 ($29,600) for the flagship e:HEV Z Cross Touring with 4WD.

That represents an increase of ¥72,600 ($450) compared to the starting price of the outgoing model. Note that Honda had already announced a ¥75,900 ($470) price bump in mid-2025 due to “rising raw material and logistics costs”.
