• The orange 600LT spread over the bike racks and slammed into a pole.
  • This isn’t the first time that a high-end sports car has been wrecked here.
  • Local police have arrested the McLaren driver for impaired driving.

The 600LT served as one of the ultimate road-going iterations of the McLaren Sport Series line-up, reportedly limited to as few as 1,500 examples. The world now has one fewer after a bright orange example was wrecked near the iconic Casa Loma castle in the heart of Toronto, Canada, late last week.

Police are still piecing together what happened, but say the crash occurred around midnight on Thursday. The driver reportedly lost control at an intersection, mounted a curb, then plowed through several bike racks before coming to rest against a light pole.

Watch: Could The McLaren 600LT Be As Good As The Spectacular 675LT?

Footage taken in the aftermath of the crash indicates that the orange 600LT was traveling alongside a green McLaren 570S. The force of the impact appears to have destroyed the front end of the car, spewing parts across the neighboring park. Unless someone is brave enough to rebuild this 600LT, it might be sold off for parts only.

You Can’t Park There, Mate

CBC reports the male driver of the 600LT was arrested for impaired driving. Both he and a passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to Alex Santis, who lives nearby, car drivers often race through the area, and he says that several years ago, a Chevrolet Corvette crashed in almost exactly the same spot.

McLaren unveiled the potent 600LT in mid-2018, following in the footsteps of the slightly larger and more powerful 675LT. It sticks to the same formula, more power, less weight, and sharper aerodynamics. Upgrades to the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 bring output to 592 hp and 457 lb-ft (620 Nm) of torque.
