- Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa confirms a next-gen Skyline sedan is coming.
- The “Heartbeat” model for Japan features GT-R inspired taillight graphics.
- Reports suggest a 2027 launch with a possible twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6.
The Nissan Vision presentation covered plenty of ground, from crossovers to SUVs, with updates on models like the Juke, Rogue (X-Trail), and XTerra. Yet it was a sedan that quietly stole the spotlight. The Skyline is coming back, and this time, it is heading into production as part of the brand’s next phase.
The next-generation Skyline will replace the long-running V37, a model that has lingered largely unchanged since 2014. For now, it is being positioned as a Japan-focused offering, sitting alongside other so-called “Heartbeat” models, including the new Xterra aimed at the North American market. Even so, its significance stretches beyond a single region.

The announcement came from Ivan Espinosa, President and CEO of Nissan, who introduced the sedan with a series of teasers.
“And finally, a name that represents the origin and soul of Nissan. Skyline: a re-imagined icon of Japanese engineering and driving passion with performance and precision,” he said, adding, “Skyline is a heartbeat model, a symbol of Japanese engineering and driving performance infused with raw emotion.”
The teasers point to a classic three-box silhouette, dressed up with a heavy dose of retro influence. Up front, the design leans on the Nissan Skyline C10 (Hakosuka) for inspiration, with a slim grille and sharper, more aggressive headlights. The rear fenders follow suit, flared and sculpted, complete with Skyline lettering.

At the back, things get even more referential. The quad round LED graphics echo the look of the Nissan GT-R R34 and R35, while the taillight clusters draw from the Skyline R30 and R31. There is also a two-tone finish in play dding an extra dose of nostalgia.
Details on the hardware remain under wraps, but reports out of Japan point to an updated version of the rear-wheel-drive platform used by the current Nissan Skyline V37.
Electrification is almost a given this time around, with a hybrid setup expected to help the model meet tightening emissions rules. The more interesting rumor, though, centers on the return of Nissan’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. That engine already does duty in the Nissan Skyline 400R and Nissan Z, which makes it a natural fit for a hotter Skyline variant.

Nissan has not confirmed a launch timeline for the new Skyline in Japan, though sources point to a possible 2027 arrival. Underneath, it is expected to share its bones with the next Infiniti Q50, which should reach the US market sooner and offer an early glimpse of what is coming.
As for the highly anticipated Nissan GT-R R36, it was nowhere to be found in the presentation. Early thinking had it pegged as a fully electric sports car with solid-state batteries, but more recent reports suggest Nissan is now weighing a hybrid setup instead.
