- Nissan’s Canton Assembly Plant has been building the Nissan Frontier since 2012.
- Demand for the Nissan Frontier has jumped considerably so far this year.
- Nissan recently announced small price increases to the Frontier for 2027.
Since 2003, the Canton Assembly Plant in Mississippi has ranked among Nissan’s most important operations in North America, and the building currently turns out the Nissan Altima and Nissan Frontier. This week it hit a milestone.
After production of the Frontier was moved from Nissan’s plant in Smyrna, Tennessee, to the Canton site in 2012, the factory has just produced its one-millionth Frontier. Count back to 1997, when the nameplate first arrived, and the running US total climbs past two million trucks.

“This milestone reflects the skill of our Canton team and the strength of the community behind them,” division vice president for US Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, and Product Engineering at Nissan, Victor Taylor said. “Canton’s precision, pride, and consistency are in every truck that rolls off the line.”
Although Nissan has had plenty of trials and tribulations over the past 18 months, the Frontier has remained an important model for it. Last year, 65,232 were sold in the US. Demand for it has been particularly strong this year, with 21,411 sold through the first quarter, up 47.9 percent from the 14,481 sold in Q1 2025. In May alone, sales were up 24 percent year-over-year to 6,773 units, the best May for the Frontier since 2010.
A Frontier For Everyone
No doubt helping to boost the Frontier’s popularity are the large array of versions on offer, as well as the competitive pricing. The cheapest 2026 model, the Frontier S, is available from $32,150, undercutting both the Chevrolet Colorado and Ford Ranger. Those with more money to spend can opt for more focused models like the Frontier Pro-X and Pro-4X, priced from $38,570 and $41,870, respectively.
Prices have been increased slightly for 2027. The base model will now start at $32,490, while the top-spec Frontier Pro-4X Crew Cab 4×4 with the six-foot bed will top out at $42,690.
