The online configurator for the flagship BMW XM Label Red has just launched and while it is possible to configure it in a way that looks better than the example BMW first showcased to the world, it’s still not an attractive SUV.
Plenty of color options are offered for the flagship SUV, including the likes of Brooklyn Grey Metallic, Melbourne Red Metallic, Urban Green, Anglesey Green Metallic, and the most flamboyant of them all, Frozen Tulum Blue Metallic. Much to our surprise, none of the available colors carry an additional charge. Then we have the wheels.
As far as wheels go, the available 22-inch and 23-inch shoes aren’t the most attractive with each adopting rather bizarre spoke designs. We’ve gone with the available 23-inch M Light Alloy Wheels with a gold finish not because they look good but simply because of our grotesque they are.
No changes can be made to the interior of the XM Label Red meaning all examples to leave the factory will feature black leather as standard with red leather across the upper part of the front and rear seats. The SUV also rocks red contrast stitching and has red-tinted carbon fiber accents on the dashboard and center console.

One of the strangest aspects of the XM Label Red is the Toronto Red Trim that runs along the doors and around the windows. Fortunately, this trim can be removed at no charge. The only other options are a $3,400 Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system and the choice between blue or red brake calipers.
While the BMW XM Label Red isn’t a looker, it should be a solid performer. Power comes courtesy of a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 supplemented by an electric motor to deliver a combined 738 hp and 738 lb-ft (997 Nm) of torque. It can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in a claimed 3.7 seconds and continue through to 175 mph (280 km/h).
