Diesel engines have started down the long road to obscurity, and the latest victim of the drive will be the Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel. But before the powertrain is phased out, the automaker is giving it one last gasp with the Rubicon FarOut trim.
Limited to just 1,000 examples, the 2023 Gladiator Rubicon FarOut will, of course, feature Jeep’s 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, as well as a number of off-road accouterments. The engine makes 260 hp (194 kW / 264 PS) and a best-in-class 442 lb-ft (598 Nm) of torque.
For the Rubicon FarOut model, the engine will be connected to a TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission. It will also get third-generation Dana 44 front and rear heavy-duty axles, a 3.73 axle ratio, and the Rock-Trac two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio to help transfer all of that torque to the trail and get the Gladiator through the toughest terrain.

In addition, it will get a “Diesel 3.0L” hood graphic, an exclusive “3.0 D” tailgate badge, a “FarOut” tailgate badge, and black fender decals. Those will be complemented by 17-inch low-gloss black polished aluminum wheels that are wrapped in 33-inch mud-terrain tires, and it will get a steel front bumper, satin black grille, as well as body-color fenders.
The 2023 Gladiator Rubicon FarOut edition also gets a spray-in bedliner, LED lighting, black leather seats with red accents, a leather-wrapped dash panel with red stitching, and all-weather floor mats. Finally, it benefits from Jeep’s Cold Weather package, its Trailer-Tow and Heavy-Duty Electrical package, and its Safety package.
Orders for the final EcoDiesel Jeep Gladiator will be open through to the end of September, and deliveries are expected to commence in the third quarter of 2023. Prices are set to start at $71,790 (including a $1,795 destination charge). The 2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon FarOut follows the 2022 Wrangler Rubicon FarOut, which signaled the discontinuation of the powertrain in the SUV. Both models are still available to order with gas engines.
