- Jay Leno has taken delivery of the twelfth example of the Ford Mustang GTD.
- It was delivered by Ford CEO Jim Farley, who discussed design and development.
- Leno appears impressed with the car, which features a supercharged V8 with 815 hp.
The Ford Mustang GTD is finally trickling into the hands of owners and Jay Leno recently took delivery of car number 12. While it might seem surprising that the famous talk show host didn’t get a model with a lower VIN, Leno noted his Ford GTs are also number 12s.
After a brief introduction, Leno brings in Ford CEO Jim Farley and the two talk about the car and its development. Farley described the model as a ten year journey as they’ve always been thinking about a high-performance Mustang, but couldn’t have won Le Mans with one until the rules changed.

The duo go on to talk about a variety of things including that Leno’s car is equipped with the Performance package. It adds a number of aerodynamic goodies including canards, underbody flaps, and a drag reduction system. They’re joined by a unique front fascia and a larger front splitter. The package also includes 20-inch magnesium wheels as well as the elimination of some sound-deadening material to reduce mass.
As Farley noted, the Performance package was critical in enabling the Mustang GTD to become the first American car to lap the Nürburgring in less than seven minutes. It completed the task in 6:57:685 with Dirk Müller behind the wheel.
Speaking of driving, Leno seems impressed with the car as he says “If you’re finding the limits of this thing on a public road, you’re going to jail.” He goes on to note the GTD has good visibility and great steering as well as a nimble and light feeling. The former TV personality also suggested the car is worth its six figure price tag even though some might consider it “ridiculous” for a Mustang.
While Leno takes it easy as he wants to break in his new car, the Mustang GTD features a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 815 hp (608 kW / 826 PS) and 664 lb-ft (899 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which enables the model to hit a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).
