• Corvette crashes through fence, slams into boat on Christmas Eve.
  • No injuries reported, but Corvette and boat both badly damaged.
  • Family’s kids had been playing in the yard moments before crash.

A quiet holiday evening in Palmetto Bay, Florida, nearly turned disastrous when a black Chevy Corvette Stingray crashed through a family’s fence and collided with their boat in a startling Christmas Eve incident.

While no one was injured, the impact was severe enough to raise alarms in the neighborhood. According to the local Vice Mayor, officials are now considering several measures to help prevent similar accidents in the future.

A security camera positioned outside the house shows the black C8 Corvette approaching the house while traveling south on Southwest 88th Court. For some reason, the driver failed to brake for the intersection and instead can be seen jumping over the curb and traveling along the property’s front yard, before slamming into the black wooden fence.

The momentum from the collision carried the Corvette into a boat that had been parked on the property. In the footage, the driver appears to pause only briefly before reversing out and pulling back onto the grass.

According to CBS News, the Corvette is owned by a neighbor. Despite the dramatic impact, no injuries were reported, not to the driver, the passenger, or anyone in the home. It was a narrow miss. According to homeowner Genavieve Villar, her children had been playing with chalk just behind the fence mere moments before the crash.

Repeat Incidents Raise Questions

The Corvette has suffered extensive damage across its front end and the passenger side. Meanwhile, the family will need a new fence and to have their boat repaired. Apparently, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened, as six months ago, Villar’s husband was hit while reversing their Ford F-150 out of the driveway.

Palmetto Bay Vice Mayor Mark Merwitzer has confirmed that the city is actively reviewing ways to reduce speeding and improve safety in the area. Among the options being considered are speed bumps or even a small roundabout near the intersection. Residents, and especially this family, are hoping a solution is in place before the next holiday season rolls around
