• Aston Martin F1 team now powered by Honda from 2026.
  • Honda split from Red Bull and joined forces with Aston.
  • Valkyrie used F1 tech and a Red Bull-developed chassis.

Honda has officially parted ways with Red Bull Racing and is now stepping in as the exclusive powertrain partner for the Aston Martin Formula 1 team. The collaboration is still in its early stages, but already, both companies are signaling a willingness to explore broader possibilities, including the potential for a future road car project.

This wouldn’t be the first time Aston Martin has drawn from its F1 ties. The track-focused Valkyrie hypercar, developed during its previous alliance with Red Bull Racing, stands as a recent example. That project also featured the direct involvement of Adrian Newey, the revered F1 designer who, as it happens, is now serving as Aston Martin’s Formula 1 team principal.

Is a Street Car Next?

At the official launch event for the new Honda-Aston Martin partnership, held in Tokyo, Aston Martin executive chairman Lawrence Stroll made it clear that the priority, at least for now, remains squarely on Formula 1. However, he didn’t rule out the idea of a joint road car effort sometime down the line.

“These are two great companies getting together in Aston Martin and Honda,” he said. “Our current plan is obviously our very ambitious Formula One works, team project. It’s safe to say that that is the beginning of our relationship. We actually at this point have not discussed a production car or hypercar or a supercar together. There is absolutely no reason why we can’t do so going forward.”

He added, “I tell you, Aston Martin would be very open to the idea based on this partnership. I’m sure Mibe-san [Honda boss Toshihiro Mibe] might be excited about the idea. So, let’s just say all doors are open to explore the greatest way to have the best partnership we can.”

Could It Actually Happen?

Honda’s boss does indeed seem intrigued by the idea, acknowledging that it’s “entirely possible” the two could collaborate on a road car, Road & Track reports.

“On the subject of any mass production projects, there are no talks,” he said. “But the racing activities between the two—the more successful this is going to be, there will be value to applying what we learned from that to production cars.”

Were the two to collaborate on a performance car, perhaps even a hypercar, it would be most logical to brand it as an Aston Martin but fitted with a Honda engine. Of course, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Honda itself could revive the NSX and launch a new supercar of its own.
