• Chelsea Rivet is a pint-sized single seat off roader.
  • It runs a 125cc engine with just 7 horsepower.
  • Steel ladder frame keeps weight at 507 pounds.

The world is hardly short on off road monsters with massive tires, heavy duty suspensions, and engines that seem determined to intimidate small countries. Still, none of that is a guaranteed recipe for genuine driving fun.

Project Kahn’s Chelsea Truck Company, best known for its reworked Defenders, has now unveiled something altogether different, a pint sized off roader that trades brute force for a tiny footprint and a generous dose of what it calls “mechanical honesty.”

The model is called the Chelsea Rivet and it is roughly the size of a bicycle. Visually, it lands somewhere between a vintage roadster and a small agricultural tractor, riding on wire wheels wrapped in 17 inch tires and sitting high thanks to generous ground clearance. There is no roof, no doors and no windshield, leaving the single seat cabin completely exposed to the elements.

Keeping It Simple Everywhere

The interior is pretty basic too, with only a few switches for the LED lights, and two gauges behind the three-spoke steering wheel. The single seat appears to be large enough for an adult driver, while the gearknob is mounted outside the tub.

The vehicle is built on a steel ladder-frame chassis, and is powered by an 125cc gasoline engine, most likely sourced from a motorcycle. Output stands at just 7 horsepower, yet the Rivet weighs only 230 kg (507 lbs), which allows this four wheeled machine to reach a claimed top speed of 37 mph (60 km/h). A semi automatic gearbox with three forward gears and reverse handles the shifting.

According to the Chelsea Truck Company, the Rivet is “quick enough to feel thrilling without ever becoming intimidating”. Stopping power is being taken care of by disc brakes on all four wheels, while the grippy tires make it suitable for trails – at least in theory.

How Much Does It Cost?

The Chelsea Rivet is available to order at £4,000 ($5,461) before taxes. A quick look online suggests it might actually be built by another company, with Chelsea Truck likely importing it into the UK. Meanwhile, a US-based store lists what appears to be the same 90 inch (2,286 mm) long roadster at a discounted $4,499.95.
