• Jeep officials keep hinting at a Hemi Grand Cherokee.
  • The model’s engineering lead told fans to stay tuned.
  • A 5.7-liter is likely, but a supercharged V8 is also possible.

Last summer, Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf told us the company was committed to V8 engines and the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 wasn’t going anywhere. That’s certainly been the case as they’ve introduced a slew of new Hemi-powered models including the Wrangler Willys 392 and Wrangler Moab 392.

More interestingly, Broderdorf confirmed additional V8 models were on the horizon. This implied the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 could return to the Grand Cherokee lineup or Jeep was working on a new SRT variant.

Signals From The C Suite

Fast forward to today and it appears we’ll be getting an answer relatively soon. When asked about the engine’s possible return, Jeep’s Joe Aljajawi told The Drive “I would say for the Grand Cherokee customers that we are listening to you” and “stay tuned for more.”

That’s not a lot to go on, but Ram recently brought back the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 in the 1500. The move was an instant success as the brand received over 10,000 orders in less than 24 hours. In the pickup, the engine produces 395 hp (295 kW / 400 PS) and 410 lb-ft (555 Nm) of torque.

How The Lineup Stands Today

As for the Grand Cherokee, it currently offers a familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 developing 293 hp (218 kW / 297 PS) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque. However, it’s joined by a new Hurricane 4 Turbo for 2026.

Standard on higher-end variants, the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 324 hp (242 kW / 329 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. That’s not too far removed from the old 5.7-liter V8, which was rated at 360 hp (268 kW / 365 PS) and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm).

The Hemi V8 Could Return In Another Stellantis Mainstay

While it would be nice to see the 5.7-liter V8 return, SRT’s rebirth offers a far more tantalizing opportunity for a new Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. If Jeep is cooking up a high-performance crossover, it would likely crib from the Ram 1500 TRX and have a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 developing 777 hp (579 kW / 788 PS) and 680 lb-ft (921 Nm) of torque.

This remains to be seen, but Ram and SRT CEO Tim Kuniskis hinted at additional high-performance models late last year. As he told us, the TRX “hints at something else coming down the line.”
