- Audi has stopped accepting A8 orders in Germany.
- The flagship sedan remains in production, for now.
- But the 9 year-old A8 seems near the end of its run.
The A8 appears close to the end of its run as Audi has quietly stopped accepting orders for the flagship sedan in Germany. When customers visit the company’s website to learn more about the model, they are greeted by a small message suggesting they consider “buying a used car.”
According to Motor1, Audi stopped accepting orders in Germany on February 18. As for global availability, a spokesperson vaguely said it “depends on inventory levels and other factors.” That being said, the car does appear to remain in production, at least for the time being.

While that’s good news, it appears the writing is on the wall. This is hardly surprising as the carpocalypse has spread to flagship sedans and A8 sales fell 14% last year, in the United States, to a mere 1,406 units.
That’s barely more than the 1,082 LS sedans that Lexus sold last year. However, it’s important to remember the Japanese automaker sent off their flagship with a LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition for 2026. It’s limited to 250 units and pricing starts at $99,280. A quick search online suggests they’re largely sold out as we only found a few cars available.
It’s also worth noting that Cadillac, Lincoln, and Infiniti have effectively abandoned the flagship sedan segment, although the CT6 lives on in China. With Audi apparently bowing out, the once prestigious battle ground is being ceded to the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class.
However, things might not entirely be over as a spokesperson said they will “communicate further details about a possible successor at a later date.” Of course, they could be talking about the Q9 crossover and it’s ultra-luxury Horch counterpart.
