- Porsche officials have reportedly confirmed a new ICE-powered Cayenne.
- Redesigned SUV is expected to arrive in 2028 and be based on PPC platform.
- Model could borrow styling from Cayenne Electric, both inside and out.
Porsche was betting on an electric future, but demand and adoption was lower than the automaker anticipated. This cost them dearly and forced the automaker into a significant course correction, extending beyond just one model series.
It appears the shift also means a new ICE-powered Cayenne is coming, as Porsche’s director of SUVs reportedly confirmed a redesigned model is due by 2029. Talking to Auto Express, Ralf Keller said the company plans to have “combustion engines and hybrids [available] far into the next decade.”

He went on to suggest their future lineup will be closely tied to Audi as “We can use the MLB-Evo platform and we can use the PPC platform.” The latter will underpin the redesigned Q7, which will be unveiled later this year.
It’s believed the platform will also be used on the fourth-generation Cayenne. Little else is known about the model at this point, but Keller reportedly implied it could adopt the Active Ride system from the Taycan. It keeps the vehicle’s body level at all times thanks to four active dampers that also function as anti-roll bars.
The underlying platform is expected to bring updates to the electronic architecture and improved integration of hybrid systems too, which could enhance performance, efficiency, and overall driving dynamics.
While the Q7 is a large three-row crossover, the Cayenne won’t follow suit as Keller said the model was “always best as a compact car and the next one will stay consistent with that.” If you need something larger, Porsche will happily direct you to the upcoming K1 flagship. That model, as you may recall, was originally supposed to be electric before Porsche had a change of heart.
The redesigned Cayenne will reportedly arrive in 2028 and adopt styling similar to the new Cayenne Electric. Another Cayenne Coupe is also expected, given strong sales of the current model.
