• The 308’s 3.0-liter V8 has been upgraded to pump out up to 400 hp.
  • Maturo has also fitted modern brakes and adjustable TracTive suspension.
  • A rally-focused version of Maturo’s upgraded 308 GTB is also available.

Restomods have become their own genre, with every backroom shop in the world chasing the same handful of icons. Just when you thought you had seen every variation imaginable, Dutch firm Maturo Competition Cars has unveiled a modernized take on the Ferrari 308 GTB. Two of them, in fact. One is built for the road, the other a reworked tribute to the 308 GTB Group 4 rally car.

The 308 Stradale is the more interesting of the pair. Maturo begins with an original 308, produced from 1975 through 1985, strips the shell to bare metal, welds in a roll cage, and adds more than 150 structural welds to stiffen the body before the real work begins.

Work then begins on the body. The Dutch firm handcrafts flared front and rear fenders for the Ferrari, drawing inspiration from the large fenders of the original Group 4 rally car. These arches look absolutely superb and suit the rest of the car’s body perfectly. They’ve also been joined by a set of 15-inch wheels.

For the most part, Maturo has avoided the trap that some restomodding specialists fall into by messing with the car’s original design too much. Maturo hasn’t done that, retaining the iconic, sleek shape of the 308 while updating it with new LED headlights and taillights.

There are plenty of changes going on under the skin, too. Whereas the 308’s original 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 delivered up to 255 hp in European spec, Maturo has fitted new camshafts, an upgraded ignition system, a bespoke intake, and a Capristo exhaust, allowing the car to produce 400 hp. To deal with the extra power, the five-speed manual has also been strengthened and continues to drive the rear wheels. A limited-slip differential has been added.

Rounding out the upgrades are modern brakes and adjustable TracTive suspension. Photos of the car’s cabin have yet to be released, but we know prices for the modernized 308 GTB start at €425,000 (about $494,000 at current exchange rates), excluding the donor car.

Those wanting a Ferrari 308 to go rallying can also order the 308 Rally from Maturo. As with the Stradale, this model is stripped down, and the chassis is strengthened. The engine is also upgraded to deliver over 300 hp, the gearbox has been reinforced, and new brakes and suspension have been fitted.
