• Europe’s updated Mazda MX-5 gains a new Zinc Green paint.
  • New Yakudo special edition adds silver accents and Alcantara.
  • The 1.5-liter engine gets a tiny power bump and better sound.

Mazda has handed the MX-5 Miata ND a small round of updates in Europe for the 2027 model year, adding a fresh paint option, a new special edition, and a modestly reworked engine.

The ND has been around since 2014, with facelifts arriving in 2018 and 2024. The sheetmetal carries over untouched for 2027, but the palette grows by one with the addition of Zinc Green, a shade that also debuts on the 2027 CX-30.

The bigger news is the Yakudo special edition, offered only on the soft-top. It stands out with silver exterior accents, matching silver brake calipers, and a two-seat cabin trimmed in Alcantara.

Slotting in alongside the Yakudo are the upscale Kazari and the sportier Homura. The Homura sits on 16-inch black RAYS alloys and adds red Brembo calipers, Bilstein-tuned dampers, and a front strut brace. It’s a recipe much like the US-market MX-5 Club, though the American car rolls on a different set of 17-inch wheels.

The interior is also carried over, including the 8.8-inch infotainment display introduced in the 2024 facelift. However, the standard safety kit has been enhanced with the addition of the Driver Attention Alert (DAA) system.

A Little More Power

The European version of the MX-5 is exclusively available with the 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine, as the 2.0-liter unit was discontinued due to emission regulations (although it remains available in the UK market). For 2027, Mazda engineers brought a slight bump in power, along with an improved engine sound that, in the company’s words, helps “enhance the agile and direct driving feel” of the roadster.

More specifically, the 1.5-liter engine now produces 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) and 155 Nm (114 lb-ft) of torque, an increase of 4 hp (3 kW) over its predecessor. CO2 emissions have dropped from 140-142 g/km to 139 g/km. And average WLTP fuel consumption now stands at 6.1 l/100 km (38.6 MPG), a slight improvement on the previous 6.2-6.3 l/100 km (37.3-37.9 MPG).

Production of the left-hand-drive MX-5 for Europe began in May, with the right-hand-drive version following in September. The first deliveries across European markets are expected in September 2026, with pricing set to be announced closer to that date.

Despite its age, the current ND generation of the Miata is expected to stick around until 2029. According to the latest reports, its successor will adopt some form of hybrid assistance for the four-cylinder engine while staying true to its lightweight character.
