The ways in which manufacturers promote their cars vary greatly, and when they go all-out and do their own ad campaign for one model, then you know they’re serious and are going to pull out all the stops. For instance, VW has launched the “As Sun As Possible” campaign for the new Beetle Cabriolet, which talks about the stories of “six sun seekers,” while also showing off the car.

In the latest video created for the campaign, a skydiver jumps out of a plane, and then somehow manages to land perfectly inside – we don’t know if they got it right the first time, but it’s impressive even if they practiced before. The stunt is also quite dangerous, if the skydiver would have landed to one side, or the other, or even in front of the car…

Everything was shot on the northern coast of Hawaii, and the action seems to revolve around beach culture, surfing, and of course the Beetle drop-top. What VW is doing is trying to use the old surf-image of the classic Beetle, and somehow link it to the new car, which is still basically a Golf with some fancy bodywork and a simpler interior.

However, being based on the Golf does have a few advantages, and one of them is the ease with which VW can swap engines. I’ve never been a fan of the Beetle, but it has always made some sense as a quirky-looking car with solid underpinnings and good engines.
