Is there any point in racing one of the oldest and…squarest 4x4s in the market against the King of straight-line performance? Not really, unless you’re talking about the AMG version of Mercedes-Benz’s G-Class and even more so, a Hennessey Performance-upgraded model, but then again, not so much to see who will win, as to how close it can get.

Said Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG is fitted with the Hennessey HPE700 package that boosts the 5.5-liter bi-turbocharged V8 to a much healthier 700-horsepower and 800 ft-lbs of peak torque. No need to remind you of the G’s weight or drag coefficient of a brick on stilts, nor that even in stock form, the Nissan GT-R is one of the fastest vehicles on this planet.

The reason why the Hennessey G AMG was somewhat able to keep up in the first race was that the driver of the GT-R supposedly “forgot” to enable the “R mode”, which changes transmission, suspension and traction control settings. The second race, puts all that we mentioned before into perspective…
