Watch a German Owner Kill his Chinese BMW X5 Clone, the CEO

What do you do with a Chinese knockoff of a BMW X5 SUV that has turned into a rust-bucket a little after 100,000 km (roughly 60,000 miles)?

Why, you call in a magazine and have them help you blow it up, of course.

Some of you may remember the legal war between BMW and China’s Shuanghuan Automobile over whether the CEO (also known as the SCEO) was doppelganger of the 1999-2006 X5 E53, and if it should be allowed in Europe back in 2008.

The Bavarians initially won a court order in their home town of Munich in Germany to ban sales of the CEO, but a few months later, an Italian court rejected BMW’s claims.

Despite winning the judges, the Chinese-built SUV never won the hearts of European buyers, but it did manage to shift several hundred units across the continent, one of which was owned by –surprise, surprise- German auto-journalist Wolfgang Blaube.

Together with German publication AutoBild, Blaube showed what had become of the CEO after a few years of use and then proceeded to destroy the car.

all that safety preparation only to blow it up from 7 feet away?

Only I, Chuck Norris, can stand that close to an explosion and not get hurt. He was lucky.

  • Glasfunk

Holy shit, I thought the title of this piece was saying that he killed the car, and then killed the company’s CEO.

      My guess would be costs.

  • J.R.

No shame at all. Shame on you all Chinese.

  • David in Sydney

To call the CEO a X5 clone is a bit silly. It’s as much a clone of the X5 as the X5 is a clone of a Jeep.

    • tkindred

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Don’t all SUV’s have the same basic shape? The CEO does have some differences.

      • Andrewthecarguy

See my response to your kindred David in Sydney. 2 counts for you though for supporting such stupidity.

    • Andrewthecarguy

You need your eyes checked. Get you brain checked while you are at it.

ARRAARARA WHHHHAT? Loook at it… When have JEEP made something looking like a BMW,..waw

  • it’s also very inspired by the Toyota Land Cruiser (or Prado)

    • Chinese Army General

      It’s Toyota Land Cruiser Potatoe

  • Kash

I don’t really feel bad for the guy for getting this rust-bucket lemon mainly because he lives in Germany and bought a chinese knock off of a BMW. it’s like living in France and buying a knockoff Louis Vuitton anything. Sacrilege.

  • Christian

The front looks like an KIA Sportage or Toyota Landcruser.

  • peter

The Videos says: , he bougth the car from a friend some days ago, to convince himself of the bad Quality.
The car was only 5 years old, the tehcnican said. “Only vehicles from construction sites are so much ‘degenerated'”.
The german “Bild” is like the brittish “Sun”. Only worse 😉

  • Brucie Bruce

He’s lucky that the car died an unnatural death. What the CEO lacks in durability it makes up for in unsafe. Check out the crash crumple test.

  • This guys intention was obviously to do this from the beginning. That is the reason why he bought the car in the first place. What would anyone expect from the car that is multiple times cheaper than the “original”?

    • Exactly.
A (bit sour) revenge of “ze Germans”.

  • klowik

From the look of it inside and out, it’s not really well maintained by the owner deliberatrly. But at least it has lasted about 100,000km. It’s not bad for a car. Think about a genuine BMW being abused everyday by someone, it could also look like this.

  • What do you expect from such a cheap car…

  • ze German

The “owner” in fact is an employee of the car magazine that made this video. The car was subject of a bigger story in that magazine some months earlier, owned to a guy from Switzerland.

So, to be honest, it´s nothing else but show 🙂

  • Seriously, is this guy suicidal?

  • iKaizen

I wonder if people in China are going to retaliate and start destroying German cars.

  • psiqtas

Whyt the hell did he buy it instead of an used X5?

  • Ken Lyns

They keep cars longer than 3 years in western Europe?

  • Iso Griffo

Judging from the underbonnet photos of the way the engine was kept, this man doesnt deserve to own a donkey cart
