Lapo Elkann, the grandson of Fiat scion Gianni Agnelli, brother of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Chairman John Elkann, and heir to Italy’s biggest industrial dynasty, has given his seal of approval for David Obendorfer’s independently-made 127 concept.

In a posting on his official Facebook page, Lapo Elkann shared a picture of Obendorfer’s retro-modern interpretation of the classic 127 with the comment, “I love this Fiat 127 prototype!”

Obendorfer is an independent designer with a knack for reimagining classic cars for our time, including the BMW CS Vintage, the Renault 4 and more recently, the Fiat 600.

And just like the aforementioned Fiat 600 Concept, the 127 study was also designed as a sub-compact hatch to replace the Punto in Fiat’s range.
