In case you watched reviews of the all-new Volvo XC90 we’ve posted so far, you may have noticed that everyone was ecstatic about it.

Which is why it’s somewhat comforting to see a less enthusiastic and more factual review of Volvo’s newest SUV. It comes from Carbuyer’s Mat Watson, who had many positive things to say about the XC90, but also some negatives.

For example, the reviewer criticized the XC90’s limited engine options (only three) compared to rivals from the same segment. The car he drove was equipped with the 225hp D5 diesel which wasn’t nearly as economical as Volvo’s official fuel economy ratings.

Furthermore, the gearbox was found sluggish at low speeds, lacking the instant reaction similar transmissions from rival automakers have. The bright side of the review includes the spacious, practical and luxurious interior, the comfortable ride and good visibility.
