Citroen Cactus M Concept Sets Up Camp In Frankfurt

The Citroën Cactus M Concept is essentially an “outdoor” version of the C4 Cactus which revives the spirit of the legendary Méhari.

Designed for leisure, the open-air crossover has some interesting features such as the drainage outlets integrated in the foot wells which allow the interior to be hosed down, and the seats designed to resemble wetsuits which feature a brightly colored neoprene waterproof fabric upholstery inspired by the world of surfing.

That’s because the Cactus M was built for open-air activities – for example, the rear arch of the vehicle allows passengers to carry all their equipment, such as wakeboards or surfboards. And when it’s time to get some rest, the modular cabin turns into a ‘couchette’ and has an inflatable roof that can be made into a tent, as Citroën demonstrates at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Compared to the C4 Cactus, the Cactus M study has an increased ride height thanks to the use of tall and narrow tyres which increased the overall diameter of the wheel. There’s no all-wheel drive, but the concept vehicle is equipped with the Grip Control function which optimizes traction by allowing the driver to choose between four modes: normal, all-terrain, snow or sand.

Citroën says the study “illustrates the potential of the C4 Cactus as the basis for new models, as well as the extraordinary possibilities for deploying Citroën’s brand positioning through different body styles.” In short, the future may bring an open-top C4 Cactus.
