For wealthy supercar enthusiasts who aren’t satisfied with the road cars offered by the world’s leading automakers, the likes of the track-only Ferrari FXX K and McLaren P1 GTR offer the perfect answer.

Strictly limited to the most prolific owners for the respective brands, the FXX K and P1 GTR really are the ultimate vehicular toys for the elite. Overall, the two cars are similar in that they are both hybrids, based around their road-going counterparts and including factory supported track-day programs.

Which of the two sounds better however?

Well throughout the year, Ferrari and McLaren have both hosted private track days at Spa Francorchamps for the duo meaning we have the chance to hear them side-by-side through the wonders of video editing. While not quite as cool as seeing an FXX K and P1 GTR doing battle in real life, this thrilling video certainly suffices.

Powertrain wise, the Ferrari utilises a screaming naturally-aspirated 6.3-litre V12 and therefore sounds just like the very best V12-powered racing cars. By comparison, the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 of the P1 GTR is more muted and deeper. If they were singers, the FXX K would be like the high octaves of Mariah Carey while the P1 GTR is like the baritone of Luciano Pavarotti.
