Despite some talk that the facelifted 7th-gen VW Golf would arrive later in the year, new claims have emerged from Germany suggesting that the refreshed model will debut in March, likely at the Geneva Motor Show.

Autobild asserts that the new Golf will adopt a sharper design than the current model and for the first time, all variants will come standard with full LED headlights, a feature only currently available on the e-Golf.

Elsewhere, we can expect the usual dose of facelifted parts include redesigned taillights, tweaked front and rear bumpers and potentially some further exterior refinements like modified grilles and air intakes.

As for the cabin, a fully-digital gauge cluster like the Passat is likely to be available as an option and joined with a head-up display. Arguably of most significance will be the adoption of a new 9.2-inch infotainment system capable of supporting Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink and importantly, advanced gesture control.

Mechanically, the updated Golf range may adopt new adjustable dampers to improve dynamics and comfort with changes to the electric steering also probable.

Once the facelifted Golf is on the market, the carmaker will unveil the production-spec Golf R400, potentially dubbed the R420. It is set to receive power from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 420 hp and complemented by all-wheel drive.
