GM’s head honchos have reportedly given Holden the green light to use the Corvette ZR1’s LS9 V8 engine on a very special, final edition of the Commodore by HSV, before it kills the series along with its local manufacturing plant next year.

Following a previous report, News Corp Australia claims that the supercharged LS9 from the C6 Corvette ZR1 will definitely be the swan song for the loved Commodore.

Fewer than 250 cars are expected to be built, with a manual gearbox to be the only option and a price tag in excess of AU$165,000, or nearly twice as much as the most expensive model in the range today. Part of the reason the final Commodore will be so costly is because the car will be partially built on the Adelaide factory before it’s shipped over to Holden Special Vehicles in Melbourne for the final assembly.

Some rumors suggested that the new halo version will adopt the GTS-R nameplate, previously used on a 1996 limited edition, but according to today’s report, the new super sedan will have a unique name of its own.

The supercharged LS9 made 638hp and 604lb ft of torque in the 2013 Corvette ZR1, which is more than enough for the Holden Commodore to go out with a big, loud bang.
