This One Of 500 Toyota Soarer Aerocabin Can Be Yours

The Toyota Soarer has been known to be a classy, luxury GT replacement for the Supra, and now’s your chance to get an extremely rare one.

This clean looking example may look like your run-of-the-mill second-generation Z20 Soarer, but it’s actually a hardtop semi-convertible that tucks its roof in the trunk along with the rear windshield while making an annoying warning noise. Called the Aerocabin, it’s one of just 500 units manufactured by Toyota in April 1989.

That’s right, all 500 were built in the same month, and each one came with the same options: the 7M-GTE engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, tan leather interior and white-over-gold two-tone pearl paint – which makes this particular model not a hundred percent original.

Anyway, the car has only 67,000 miles on the clock, and its 3.0-litre straight-six turbo engine develops 232 hp at 5600 rpm and 325 Nm (240 ft-lb) at 4000 rpm.

The JDM-only model was also offered with keyless entry, as well as semi-active, full air suspension. Available for purchase at Mecum for an undisclosed price, the car should your nostalgia-ticket to the clumsy 1980s bulky technology. Don’t expect it to break your bank lot either, as other models were sold for around $20,000 in recent years.

  • Six Thousand Times

Lovely old piece of techno origami. It never was a Supra replacement, though. The Soarer (generation after this one) did become the Lexus SC in many markets.

I’ve heard these often “popularly”(not technically) referred to as a luxury version of the supra. That might have been what he meant by replacement(because they certainly weren’t 🙂
