Ahead of this weekend’s famed Bathurst 1000 endurance race, Red Bull Racing Australia created a custom Supercars-spec Holden Commodore drifter for popular NZ-born racer Shane Van Gisbergen.

When he isn’t competing in Australia’s leading Supercars Championship, Van Gisbergen is an accomplished drifter in both the Australian and New Zealand drifting championships. He’s made a name for himself thanks to his drift-filled celebrations when he wind, so it was only appropriate Red Bull made him a car perfect for the job.

The unique Commodore is largely identical to the racer Van Gisbergen drives most weekends, meaning its 5.0-liter, 650 hp V8 engine has gone untouched.

However, some other changes have been made, such as the fitment of different wheels and tires, a new handbrake, flared wheel arches and bent steering arms to give it almost 60 degrees of steering lock, way more than the 15 per cent of the usual race car. All in all, the finished product is perhaps the ultimate Australian hoonigan.
