Searching for a free parking space has never been easier than with a Seat Ateca study equipped with Smart City Connectivity.

Unveiled by the Spanish-based car company and heading at the 2016 Smart City Expo World Congress, which is being held in Barcelona from November 17, the concept uses tracking sensors to collect information from its surroundings.

The info is then shared with other users via the Parkfinder app, developed by CARNET, which displays the location of free parking spaces on a map. The system is also part of an agreement reached with the Barcelona Council and Cellnex Telecom.

Described as a “pioneering project” by Seat, the system allows for three driver profile configurations: close to home, close to work and personalized. For each, users can organize their preferences according to the likelihood of finding parking more quickly, but distance and price are also taken into consideration.

Moreover, the Smart City Connectivity features a ‘Find my Car’ function that shows where the vehicle is parked, and a ‘Last Mile Routing’ that displays the on-foot distance to the final destination.
