Rolling Start Decides Challenger Hellcat vs Camaro ZL1 Winner

After putting up a great fight against the Corvette Z06 a couple of weeks ago, the 2017 Camaro ZL1 is at it again, this time looking to punch slightly above its weight in a fight against the 707 HP (716 PS) Challenger Hellcat.

It’s a battle of pure muscle here, and John Hennessey is looking to be the referee between these two iconic American sports cars (supercars really), neither of which have had any custom work done.

So the way they were meant to come out of the factory was by carrying along 650 HP (659 PS) and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque when it comes to the Camaro ZL1, whereas the Challenger Hellcat packs 707 HP (716 PS) and the same amount of torque at 650 lb-ft (881 Nm).

On paper, their 0-60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration times are nearly identical, with just 0.1 seconds separating them, and with a rolling start, the Hellcat is much more likely to get off to a good start without losing much or any traction at all.

Just like with the ZL1 vs Z06 drag race, this one is pretty darn close as well, but as always, there can be only one winner – so who are you picking?

I’d like to see how well the Camaro would perform with 643 lbs add to its curb weight.

I’d like to see how well the Challenger would perform with 643 lbs removed from its curb weight.

        K’na gedda AMEN?

      • Craig

But you could ADD 643 lbs to the Camaro RIGHT NOW!

The manual ZL1 is .4 seconds slower than the automatic according to Chevy, so had they used an AT instead of an MT I’m thinking the ZL1 takes it every time. Not that it really matters though as they are pretty different cars when it’s all said and done. Both do what they are designed to do extremely well and for ridiculously small amounts of money all things considered.

I hate rolling starts but I’m not surprised by the results. If the ZL1 had the automatic, I’m sure it would have won but maybe not by that much.

I actually realized, that wehen You look from from distance at this black Camaro it reminds me a bit the Nissan GT-R…

  • Six_Tymes

A DUMB match up. Either have both auto or both manual. Who’s stupid idea was that??? Henessey you just lost some of my respect. Even the intro to the video suggests an even match is about to take place. GET TWO AUTOMATICS.

  • Six Thousand Times

The Camaro’s a little bit too hard to see out of and only the neckiest ‘neck ever would be seen in the Dodge.

  • is that what you guys call racing over there? haha
