A Mustang Almost Caused A Train Crash, Was Pushed Away Seconds Before Locomotive Rolled Through

Four men helped prevent a disastrous situation when a Ford Mustang got stuck on a railway crossing in Portland, Oregon, on Friday morning.

According to reports, bad weather conditions led several cars getting stuck in ruts crossing MAX lines along NE 99th and East Burnside, but the red second-generation Mustang got stranded just as a MAX train was approaching the crossing.

“We saw a red mustang coming down the road. It was fishtailing a little bit. It got to that stop light up there. It went to go across those max tracks and got stuck,” said Andrew Rasmussen, a physical therapy student who followed the scene with his mentors at Laurelhurst Physical Therapy, KATU reported. “Rear wheel drive, real low sports car, yeah probably not the best to be on these kind of roads,” he said.

A news helicopter flying from above captured the moment on film, when four men ran to help the Mustang driver.  “About four or five people rocked the car to get it off the tracks in about 10 to 15 seconds before the max came by,” Rasmussen explained.

Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the pony car will have another chance in making it to this year’s Top Mustang Crashes – see last year’s here.

If there’s a lesson to be learned here it’s that, drivers should use common sense, and avoid things like, you know, heading out with a rear-wheel drive sports car, especially without appropriate tires, when the roads are covered in snow.

who knew a mustang could almost injure people even when it’s not leaving Cars & Coffee?

    • Star Lord 970

I assume the same kind of idiots who blame the car for the driver’s stupidiy….

      • Kash

More likely, the same kind of people who don’t know what a joke is…

        • Star Lord 970

          Oh, it’s a joke, that makes it…still dumb…

  • LeftLanePrius

I was expecting a train to rush by at 70mph?

  • TrevP

What amazing people to help the poor Mustang.

    • PB

Yes, that’s the best part (well only part that matters) of the clip.

  • Shobin Drogan

“Rear wheel drive, real low sports car, yeah probably not the best to be on these kind of roads” None of this would be a problem had he got the right tyres.

I can’t stress this enough. I drive the brz through snow every year without any problems.

      • Eythan Aldrich

        with snow tires?

        • SomeRandomCommenter

Yup, I don’t think the car would move without proper snow tires.

          • Sam

Yeah, but in the end…it’s still a rice burner.

      • smartacus

        i second that.
i used to drive an E30 M3 through the winters.
        with Dunlop summer tires

And those cars didn’t even have traction control.

Excellent video! It fully shows what proper tires and awareness while driving can achieve when driving rwd.

  • Astonman

    some good folks right there!

  • smartacus

jeez, that was a close call

  • I would have stopped after that and say a proper thank you to the helpers. The guy just drives away like nothing happend

    • Carenthusiast

      Absolutely agree

  • Tex

Oh yeah. It was a tram rolling at 20 miles per hour and could stop in a moment’s notice. And what the heck was the helicopter doing there? Something stinks here, including the driver who sped away without saying a word of thanks.

  • Carenthusiast

Did the Mustang driver bother to say ‘thankyou’ to the guys who saved his life??Lol…..
