2018 Maruti Suzuki Dzire Is India’s Swift Sedan

The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Dzire has just debuted in India as the new compact sedan for Suzuki’s Indian affiliate.

Underpinning the new Dzire is the same lightweight architecture as the latest Suzuki Swift, allowing the new car to be significantly stronger and more rigid than its predecessor. The improved chassis is then complemented by a selection of other significant modifications.

As Rush Lane has learnt, the Dzire will be offered with either a 1.3-liter diesel delivering 73 hp and a 1.2-liter petrol engine producing 83 hp. Both engines can be accompanied by a 5-speed manual or an automatic transmission and thanks to the new model’s lighter overall weight, it promises to be nippier and more fuel efficient than the old car.

Maruti Suzuki has also focused extensively on upgrading the sedan’s interior to make it feel much more premium. Perhaps the most obvious addition to the cabin is a touchscreen infotainment system in the middle of the dashboard as well as the availability of faux wood inserts for range-topping variants. Elsewhere, the 2018 Dzire includes a flat-bottomed steering wheel and appears to offer excellent visibility thanks to the thin A-pillars.

Production of the new car has commenced at the company’s plant in Manesar and while local pricing details have yet to be announced, it is expected to cost about $1,000 more than the outgoing model.

Having hard time imagining someone will (Desire) this car. lol
but I like the faux wood grain touch on the steering wheel. I don’t thing I saw it on another car in this segment.

At least it has a rear door handle, much better than the Swift.

How is this possible? Butt ugly. Who would buy something this tacky?

  • STUBBY LITTLE BUGGER.

I know about the India only desire for sub 4m booted sedans, but not only is the resulting look ungainly, to say it very politely, but look where the rear bench is and at the angle of the C-pillar, and I have a hard time imagining that car offers headroom for anyone who is taller than a 12 year old. Apart from the good roast your head/neck will get under the Indian sun….

And then I haven’t started about the tacky fake wood, but I guess that#s again market preference, but why on earth does the launch photo car have so many blank switches inside? or is this rental spec?

  • i like it !

Beige plastic around rear AC vents is not fitted properly. I bet this is one of many soon to be revealed design flaw.

“Dzire zdi+ ddis” A good combination for a password

  • Looks better than the old ones for sure.

The beige interior and wood-trim are definitely Indian market mainstays (on top of the quarter rear hatch). But does the inner bootlid really have to be left bare and exposed like that?

Looks more modern than a Versa.

Criticisms of the design are being made by those who apparently aren’t aware of India’s ‘4-metre’ rule. Though no raging beauty, the handling of the rear 3/4 styling, is more successful than the out-going model. As for interior fit and finish…not quite there yet.

    ugly..ugh! years 90 so….

what? sorry…..your opinion is messed up

This has to be one of the laziest uninspired design job ever! Kill it with fire please!

Not that I desire it, but it looks quite good to me.

The Grille sort of reminds me of the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 a bit.
