Ford Focus RS vs Audi SQ7: Is There A Real-Life Lesson Somewhere In There?

Suppose you’re driving your new Ford Focus RS when an Audi SQ7 pulls up next to you on the traffic lights. This is going to be interesting.

Sure the two cars are not by any measure comparable but still it’s interesting to see which one is the fastest. Will it be the big diesel-powered SUV or is the grade-A hot hatch too tough for the traffic light grand prix?

The Audi SQ7 is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 TDI engine that makes use of an electric-powered compressor in order to eliminate the traditional turbo lag. Despite the big footprint, the fastest of the Q7s is capable of a 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds which sounds competitive enough for the Focus RS.

The Ford Focus RS is powered by a smaller 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that makes 345hp channeled also to all four wheels. Ford says it’ll do a 0-62mph sprint in 4.7 seconds, making things more intriguing.

Top Gear magazine brought the two together in their latest drag race video, so let’s see if the manual hot hatch will beat the big automatic diesel SUV. Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets.

The Focus driver had a fractional head start and still lost 🙂

The RS isn’t designed for the drag strip, it’s designed for the track. Fast CUVs aren’t really all that impressive… you can make anything go fast in a straight line with today’s technology.

Put these two on the track and the RS walks away while the Audi flips going into turn one.

    • nastinupe

You lost me when you mentioned putting an SQ7 on a track.

      • LJ

        Reading comprehension isn’t for everyone.

        • nastinupe

And track days aren’t for everything.

          • LJ

So you’re making my original point, then?

          • nastinupe

Your original point makes no sense. The SQ7 will never see a track day so trying to compare its performance on the track to the Ford is invalid. In the real world they could possibly meet at a red light and this situation could occur. Nobody is taking their three row/ seven passenger SUV to a track.

          • LJ

And no one is going to drag race in their SQ7 either.

          • nastinupe

Drag race on a drag strip, no. Drag race from a red light race, possibly.

  • ace_9

Oh, suddenly there is no real life lesson and cars are not by any measure comparable. But when Tesla is compared to supercars, then it is considered as invaluable consumer advice…

  • LeStori

The real life lesson is that “auto” cars are not much fun. Just floor it and away you go. No skill needed, brain in auto pilot.

  • Stephen Sutherland

also….the sq7 had a full tank of fuel…..535 miles to empty.

  • alexxx

    Just give me the Focus…

  • For a heavy luxury diesel SUV, I still think SQ7 is not valued much here.

  • KidRed

    Damn, that’s impressive.
