The New York Auto Show kicks off next week and Toyota will apparently use the event to introduce a new hatchback.

Details are limited but the company has released a handful of teasers on Twitter which show a giant egg on a trailer. Toyota isn’t saying what is inside the egg but the mysterious model will be unveiled on March 24th.

While Toyota has already confirmed plans to introduce the 2019 RAV4 in New York, the crossover appears too big to fit inside the egg. The company is also teasing the model with the #ToyotaHatch hashtag so it seems likely that the car will be a hatchback.

Toyota’s North American lineup is largely devoid of hatchbacks but the company offers the Yaris and the Corolla iM. The latter model is essentially a rebadged version of the Auris and a new version of the car was recently introduced at the Geneva Motor Show. As a result, it seems pretty clear that Toyota will unveil the 2019 Corolla iM in New York or a concept to preview the upcoming model.

If we don’t end up with egg on our face, the 2019 Corolla iM will ride on the new TNGA platform and feature a bolder and more upscale design. The car should also be longer and wider than its predecessor and offer a more comfortable ride.

In Europe, the Auris is offered with three different four-cylinder engines including a turbocharged 1.2-liter producing 116 hp (86 kW). The model can also be equipped with two hybrid engines including a 1.8-liter with 122 hp (91 kW) and a 2.0-liter developing 180 hp (134 kW).
