Renault is further embracing electrified solutions, as the successor of the current Captur is said to arrive with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Believed to show up next fall, probably at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, the B-segment crossover might also gain a mild-hybrid variant, L’Argus reports.

The French company’s engineers will allegedly replace the 0.9-liter TCe with a new three-cylinder 1.0-liter unit, which is derived from the 1.3-liter TCe. The latter was co-developed with Daimler and will also be available in the new Captur.

Diesels are here to stay

The diesel-ban voted in several cities worldwide isn’t scaring Renault, which won’t drop the oil burners for their next-generation vehicles. So, the new Captur will apparently get the 1.5-liter dCi in 85PS (84hp) and 115PS (113hp) versions.

Underpinned by the new CMF-B platform, which will be shared with the upcoming Clio and next Nissan Juke, the 2020 Renault Captur will gain a few precious centimeters to its wheelbase, for increased legroom on the rear bench.

Semi-autonomous driving?

Without quoting any sources, the publication talks about a new infotainment system with a touchscreen display offered in higher specs, and Level 2 semi-autonomous driving. However, since this information cannot be verified just yet, we’ll take the second part with a grain of salt for now.

Coinciding with the world debut of the new Renault Captur will be the second generation Nissan Juke. Both subcompact SUVs are said to hit the market in the first quarter of 2020, around the same time as the upcoming Peugeot 2008 replacement.
